This course covers the rationale for music in the curriculum; rhythmic, vocal, and instrumental skills; and music appreciation and history. It also covers Montessori’s rationale for movement; basic gross motor skills; body awareness; and movement activities for line time and outdoors.

As well as introducing the student to philosophy and rationale of geography, land & waters forms, globes, maps, flags and multi-cultural awareness in the Montessori early childhood classroom . History: time, calendar, seasons and personal history.

Theory of Montessori Method including history, sensitive periods, role of the teacher and role of the child, prepared environment, and process of normalization. Also includes discussion of developmental theories of other major theorists, absorbent mind, logical/mathematical mind, spiritual & moral development. How the above relate to child, materials, teacher, and environment.
